About our producer, composer, engineer, Ben Robbins.

 

Ben was born into a theatrical family with both parents professional actors, and so from an early age was no stranger to theatres, studios, rehearsal rooms and film sets. At the age of 7 he was a Chorister at Westminster Cathedral where for the next 5 years he was engulfed in music, singing alongside professional singers and taking part in numerous broadcasts and recordings.

 

At 13 he won a music scholarship to King’s College, Wimbledon, where he studied piano and oboe, winning competitions in both instruments.

 

His first job was as assistant engineer at RGJones Studios, where he worked for the next ten years learning his craft as an engineer, working alongside artists such as A-ha, Cliff Richard, Leo Sayer,The Moody Blues, D-Influence, Gabrielle, Shola Ama, David Cassidy, Jason Donovan, Barbara Dickson, Simon May Orchestra, and Vanessa May. During this time he is proud to have worked on 3 Christmas No1s, including the infamous 'Mr Blobby'! (biggest selling UK single of 1993)

 

In 1996 he set up his own studios to concentrate on writing and production, having hits with Tina Arena,Toby Bourke, Errol Brown, Rick Astley and Laura Pausini (co-producing her first song sung in English ‘The Extra Mile’ for which he was nominated a Latin Grammy award.) In 2002 he was signed to Rive Droite Music (Right Bank) as house producer and songwriter and co-produced Katherine Jenkins first album 'Premier' which stayed at No1 in the Classical Charts for 7 weeks - and a total of 100 weeks in the top 10.

 

He also produced and co-wrote for Russian boyband 'Smash!!' who's debut album 'Freeway' sold over 2 million albums, and co-wrote the Eurovision entry for France in 2004 sung by Pop Idol's Jonatan Cerrada.

 

In 2005 he set up Production and Songwriting facility 'Private & Confidential Music' with Sir Harry Cowell. Here Ben wrote and produced for artists such as Delta Goodrem, Pam Sheyne, Anthony Callea, Liz McClarnon, Chico, Keedie (and the English Cricket Team) and M-People's Heather Small, co-writing and producing her second solo album 'Close To A Miracle'

 

In 2007 Ben moved to Central London and took up residency of Studio 3 in Dean St. Studios in the heart of Soho. From there he moved to Andrew Lloyd Webber's Studio at the top of The Palace Theatre.

 

In Sep 2007 Ben won Classic FM's Composer competition with his setting of 'In Paradisum' performed by Soprano Fiona Jessica Wilson.
